The increased importance of a dedicated Competency Management System and the need to assure competence of the workforce in the oil and gas industry has been driven by a number of factors including:

  • The legal duty of companies to ensure that all employees are competent to carry out their work safely- especially where the work is safety critical
  • Recommendations ensuing from the North Sea Piper Alpha disaster; the requirement for safety cases and safety management systems
  • Improved management of business performance and safety through the competency of people

ArnoldAlmondArnold Almond, Director of Delton said “Competence and Competence Assurance has now entered the vocabulary of the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical industry.  The industry as a whole now share best practise and this is encompassed in dedicated Company Competency Management Assurance Systems.  A skilled and competent workforce is critical and even ‘vital’ to an organisation’s competitiveness, safety standards and business success.”
