Darren Laidlaw – Middle East Manager
Darren Laidlaw is OPC’s new regional manager for the Middle East. Darren is based in our office in Doha, Qatar, and has over 12 years’ experience in the delivery of services to the oil & gas sector in the Middle East.
Darren is responsible for the management and development of all OPC interests throughout the region including technical studies, provision of consultants and training. Prior to joining OPC Darren worked for other oil and gas resourcing specialists including Fircroft, NES and Gulf Drilling.
Before joining OPC I asked a number of contacts for their views on the business and I was really impressed by their views. OPC is unique in providing high quality expertise within subsurface engineering – either outsourced studies or the provision of consultants. Several companies are able to source drillers but providing niche experts such as well site geologists is normally beyond them – and where OPC excels.
Darren has lived in Doha for 8 years with his wife and children.
The Al Bayt and Wakra stadiums – world cup venues for 2022
I love Qatar. I have seen an amazing change in the country in the eight years I have lived here. The Football World Cup has been a driver of this change – and we have amazing stadiums and transport infrastructure here now that will serve the country well beyond the world cup. We have been impacted by COVID-19 but with 70% of the country now double vaccinated – including my 15 year old son, we are back in growth mode again.
When not working, Darren can be found racing motorbikes or doing some form of outside activity.
I am an outdoors nut. If I’m not dune racing I am scuba diving, camping or exploring the desert. I am really looking forward to meeting all clients and contacts throughout the Middle East once travel restrictions are eased and of course seeing more of the fantastic natural wonders within the region.
