OPC Subsurface Director Luke Johnson recently presented at EAGE Annual 2026 in Aberdeen, sharing insights into OPC’s Simulation Sprint methodology during his session, “Simulation Sprints: An experiment-led approach to approximate accuracy.”
Delivered as part of the session “Minds, Models and Meaning”, the presentation explored how experiment-led thinking can help subsurface teams challenge assumptions, accelerate learning and make better decisions in the face of uncertainty.
A Different Approach to Simulation.
OPC’s Simulation Sprint methodology uses targeted experiments to rapidly test ideas, explore uncertainty and generate insights. Rather than focusing solely on building increasingly detailed models, the approach helps teams learn faster and make more informed decisions in complex subsurface environments.
Luke’s presentation explored how Simulation Sprints can help organisations balance speed, accuracy and confidence when tackling geological and engineering challenges.
