Our Company

OPC is a global energy consultancy specialising in the provision of technical support services to clients across the upstream energy, CO2 and gas storage sectors.

OPC was established in 1988 to provide clients with access to the necessary technical resources and solutions to enable them to deliver upstream energy projects and meet global energy demands. Our clients include NOCs, IOCs, independent energy companies and financial institutions.

We have strategically placed offices in London, Aberdeen, Stavanger, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Astana, Houston and Perth with staff, SME consultants and a full suite of industry standard software allowing us to deliver projects on a global scale.

Our History

OPC was established in 1988 as a well test consultancy business by Piers Johnson.

Since 1988, OPC has expanded the scope and range of services provided into all areas of subsurface engineering and has completed more than 6,000 projects in nearly 50 countries.

Our senior management team includes: 

Piers Johnson
Chairman and CEO
Piers is an experienced petroleum engineer with 30 years’ experience. He holds a B.Sc.(Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University, and is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
Ryan Moore
Chief Commercial Officer
As Chief Commercial Officer, Ryan is responsible for the OPC group’s commercial and strategic operations. His background lies in corporate finance, accountancy, investment analysis, commercial management and operations. Ryan moved over from the financial services industry to the energy sector, where he has worked for over a decade. Ryan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and a Masters in Finance (Msc.).

Managing Director, Global Surface Business
As Managing Director for Global Surface Business, Kavin leads OPC’s growth efforts globally, working closely with the other OPC regional offices to lead strategy, business development and project delivery. He brings over 20 years of international experience in the energy sector, with background in both consultancy and EPC project execution. His expertise spans the full value chain, with a focus on LNG, hydrogen, renewables ad subsurface engineering. Based in the UK, Kavin is committed to driving sustainable growth and delivering high-impact solution aligned with energy transition goals.
Luke Johnson
Luke Johnson
Subsurface Director
Luke is OPC’s Subsurface Director, bringing over 25 years of international experience in geoscience and energy consultancy. He specialises in geological modelling, reservoir characterisation, and field development & production strategies. At OPC, Luke oversees all subsurface activities, providing technical leadership, project oversight, and client support across the company’s global portfolio. He is a passionate advocate for clear, accessible technical communication, combining rigorous geoscience expertise with practical, operator-focused insight to optimise field performance and support evidence-based decision-making.

Max Richards
Group Business Development Manager
Max Richards is the Group Business Development Manager for OPC, supporting OPC’s international clients with focus on North America and Europe. Max is also our in-house specialist for Carbon Capture and Storage, playing a key role with OPC’s technical team in all projects involving Energy Transition. He has an MSci in Environmental Geoscience from University College London.

Almas has more than 20 years of broad experience working in service and technical capacity with many oil companies within Kazakhstan.
Darrell Mandiwall
Technical Assurance Manager
Over 25 years of varied oil industry employment in the UK North Sea. Wide and detailed experience of all aspects of reservoir engineering including operated field experience. Expertise in leading multi-disciplinary reservoir studies, operational and functional reservoir management, A&D and reserves reporting.
Tom Short
Consultant Service Manager
Tom Short is the OPC Consultant Services Manager. Based in our office in London, Tom manages our global consultant services business, working with clients to identify and fulfil requirements for external consultant contracts globally.
Dan Pickering
Technical Manager, Asia Pacific
With an Honours degree in Geology and a Masters in Petroleum Engineering, Dan has been at OPC Asia Pacific (formally OPES International) since 2006 and is the current Technical Manager. He has worked on most of the LNG projects around Australia, oil and gas fields in the North Sea, India, Thailand & Indonesia and has been involved with the world’s largest CCS project since its inception. Experienced in reservoir modelling and field management, his latest work has focussed on CCS opportunities and surveillance techniques in producing & gas storage fields using flowing data.​​​
Steve Wybar
Steve Wybar
Subsurface Team Lead
Steve is OPC’s Subsurface Team Lead, bringing over 14 years of hands-on experience in conventional and unconventional resource evaluation, as well as carbon capture and storage (CCS). Since joining OPC in 2023, he has played a key role in resource assessments, frontier exploration, and the strategic development of oil and gas portfolios. Based in our London office, Steve leads a skilled team delivering high-impact subsurface solutions aligned with the evolving demands of the energy transition.
