Luke Johnson Joins OPC as Subsurface Director to Drive Global Technical Growth

Strengthening OPC’s Subsurface Leadership.

OPC has appointed Luke Johnson as Subsurface Director, enhancing the company’s technical depth and supporting growth plans across reservoir characterisation, field development, and training services.

Luke brings more than 25 years of international subsurface experience, with a career spanning work in the operators, in research, digital innovation and energy transition.

His work combines rigorous technical expertise with a practical, operator-focused understanding of how subsurface decisions impact field performance and project value.

A Fresh Approach to Subsurface Delivery and Communication.

Luke has already supported OPC on major international studies, contributing to complex reservoir evaluation work and strengthening client relationships.

As Subsurface Director, he will oversee all technical delivery across OPC’s global subsurface activities, provide strategic technical assurance, and collaborate closely with the business development team. He will also support the expansion of OPC’s presence in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Australia.

A passionate advocate for clear, accessible technical communication, Luke is well known for his engaging “whiteboard” style content and his ability to break down complex geological concepts into practical, actionable insights.

He says:

“From the outset, OPC felt like a natural fit for me. There’s a strong technical core here and a culture that values honest, practical problem-solving. I’m excited to help grow our capability, deepen our client relationships, and bring a fresh, engaging approach to the way we communicate subsurface insights. It’s also an interesting coincidence that Piers and I share the same surname. While we’re not related, I’d definitely say we share similar traits and values.”

OPC Chairman and CEO Piers Johnson said:

“Luke combines strong technical capability with a natural ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and engagingly. He’s already made a positive contribution, and we’re delighted he’s chosen to join OPC in a permanent leadership role. He’s a great fit for the culture we have.”

Looking Ahead: Expanding Capability and Training in 2026.

Luke will play a central role in strengthening OPC’s subsurface capability, expanding regional partnerships, and re-establishing a refreshed technical training programme from 2026.

His blend of technical rigour, operational understanding and clear communication will support OPC’s continued focus on pragmatic, high-quality subsurface delivery for clients worldwide.

Welcome to the team Luke.
