Reservoir Study Success – Caspian Region
OPC completed a comprehensive reservoir simulation and development planning study for Dragon Oil in the offshore Caspian region. The mature field has been in production for over 50 years and presented complex subsurface challenges, including multiple fault blocks, a mixed fluid system, and limited legacy data.
OPC’s team delivered a high-resolution dynamic model using tNavigator, integrated with a robust static framework. A range of development scenarios were evaluated, identifying a strategy with the potential to significantly increase production and recovery through the application of modern drilling techniques.
Key Achievements
Comprehensive reservoir simulation study delivered using tNavigator, incorporating over 200 equilibration regions and more than 30 major faults.
Model built for a mixed fluid system, producing both oil and condensate.
Execution of advanced history matching, supported by automated history matching (AHM) and pressure transient analysis.
Application of vertical and lateral upscaling techniques for robust model performance.
Evaluation of multiple development scenarios – optimal case showed potential for up to a 3× increase in incremental production and recovery through modern well designs, including highly deviated and horizontal wells.
