Gulf of Mexico – CO2 Storage in a Saline Aquifer – Review

Project Completed

CO2 Saline Aquifer Study, Gulf of Mexico

OPC Performed a red flag analysis for the transport and storage of CO2 into a saline aquifer

During this review, OPC performed a rapid red flag analysis of various CO2 injection scenarios with varying impurities. OPC analysed the impact on injectivity, flow assurance, well design and material selection. The outcome of the study included OPC making a series of recommendations regarding pre-treatment of CO2 streams, further investigation of all operating scenarios, near well-bore dry-out caution, and a refinement of material selection to ensure well integrity and limit corrosion.
