Improving Understanding of Reservoir Connectivity Through Seismic-Constrained Modelling

As an offshore gas field entered the later stages of production, improving understanding of inter-well reservoir connectivity became increasingly important to support production forecasting and reservoir management.

This project explored how seismic inversion could be integrated into an existing static modelling workflow to provide greater confidence in reservoir connectivity interpretation.

What we did:

OPC developed a structured workflow that integrated seismic inversion data with stochastic facies modelling. Three modelling phases were created and tested, progressively incorporating well data, geological facies classification and seismic inversion to evaluate the contribution of each to predicted reservoir connectivity.

The resulting models were dynamically validated using pressure transient analysis, enabling comparison of reservoir behaviour while identifying where seismic inversion added value and where geological interpretation remained essential.

Outcome:

The project delivered a robust and auditable workflow for integrating seismic inversion into static reservoir modelling, improving confidence in reservoir connectivity interpretation and supporting more informed reservoir management decisions.

The methodology provides a transferable approach for other offshore assets and data-sparse reservoirs where uncertainty in inter-well connectivity remains a key challenge.
